Jim Jeffery BIBLE
Word has been received by Joe C. Bible of Burnet, from the War Department, Washington, D.C., that his son, Jim Jeffery Bible was seriously wounded in action at Corregidor on April 28th. He later received another wire that Jeffery died on May 2nd from the wounds received in action in defense of his country.
Jeffery volunteered in February 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas and was sent directly to Fort Mills, Philippine Islands, where he served in the heavy coast artillery.
Jeffery was born August 18, 1911 in Wade, Oklahoma. His mother died during World War I, with the flu. He lived a number of years with his grandfather, Adam B. Bible, better remembered as Pete Bible, in the Tow Valley Section of Llano County.
Jeffrey had a smile for everyone and was well liked and loved by all who knew him. He will be remembered by a host of friends in both Llano and Burnet counties who will deeply regret hearing of his death.
He is survived by his sister, Nettie Bible of Weatherford, Texas, his father and stepmother, three half sisters, one half brother of Burnet, his uncles Pete, Ivy, Jeff and Jim Bible of Leander, Texas.

Washington, D.C., May 9, 1942, Jodie C. Bible, Burnet, Texas.
The Secretary of War desires me to express his deep regret that the death of your son, Jim J. Bible, occurred on May 2nd, in the Philippine Islands as a result of wounds received in action in defense of his country. Letter follows.

Purple Heart Medal and Certificate Awarded. Joseph Clyde Bible of Burnet has received the Purple Heart Medal and Certificate awarded his son, Jim J. Bible, for "Military Merit and for wounds received in action, resulting in his death May 2nd 1942," at Fort Mills, Corregidor, in the Philippine Islands. Jim Bible served in the Coast Artillery fifteen months, stationed at Fort Mills. The purple heart Certificate reads as follows:
