Notes from Barry Caraway:

Location: From the city of Burnet go south on Hwy 281 to County
Road 340A; take a left, then take a right on county road 340 (Mormon
mills road). A sign there says "Holland Cemetery", with an arrow
pointing to the right when you take a right on 340. Go down till you
see the Holland Cemetery sign on the left, take a left at the sign.
You have to open an unlocked gate. Follow the road, keeping to your
left. The road will go up a hill and will dead end at the cemetery.
It is best to use a pickup truck because in some parts of the road a
car can bottom out. If it rains you will need a 4X4 or a mule to get
to the cemetery; but they try to take care of the road.
This cemetery is taken well kept and it has a great view of the Hill Country. The cemetery is still being used by family members only. Unknown graves 2.
Note: About 300 feet south from the cemetery, in a rock enclosure,
is the unmarked grave of Emaline Holland, b. 2 Mar 1861, d. 17 Oct
1867, the first daughter of Samuel Ely Holland. There are about 7
other unmarked graves nearby; I was told those graves were the graves
of Indians. |
