Gottfried came to the U.S.A. around 1880. Emma Marie Sakewitz came with her family around the same time. They both came from Germany. She was married to a man by the name of Carl Barth. This marriage did not work out. However, she had a son by this man.

Gottfried and Emma met and married in Comfort, Tx. Sometime around 1900 they moved to a farm near Oatmeal.

Gottfried was a stone and brick mason. He worked on many of the stone and brick buildings in Bertram. He laid the brick on the Bertram school building that is still in use.

Around 1915 he moved to Bloomington, Tx. His son Will (my grandfather), farmed in the Sage community until the 1950's. Later Will bought a house in Burnet where he lived until his death.

Will spelled his name Dietering the others Diedering.
