Burnet County's Most Beloved Citizen Dies
Last Sunday, October 25th, 1936, in a Temple hospital, Burnet County's best loved citizen, Rev. Al V. Feild
was called by death. He had been ill only a short time and was
operated upon a few days prior to his death for appendicitis. The
funeral service was held Monday afternoon at the Lake Victor Baptist
Church, by Revs. George Brown of Lake Victor, Mack Hahn
of the Bethel community and the pastor of the Baptist Church at
Lampasas. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, the family
burying ground. Notwithstanding the bad weather and the terrible
condition of the roads, hundreds of friends of this great and good man
gathered at the church and cemetery to pay their last respects to his
memory.
He is survived by his heart-broken wife, a daughter, Mrs. Roy Pierpont of Los Angeles, California, two sons, Mark Feild of Lake Victor and Vernor Feild with the U. S. Navy, now stationed at Los Angeles, two grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. A. A. Feild, two brothers, Ira Feild of Burnet, and Harry Feild of Lampasas, Texas, and numerous other near and dear relatives.
Al V. Feild was born in Burnet county 56 years ago and spent his entire life among its people. He was a son of the late A. A. Feild and Mrs. Feild, and a grandson of the lamented Dr. Feild, one of the early settlers and physicians of Burnet county, and who settled in this section before the Civil War.
I can recall the first time I ever met Al Feild. It was in Judge Ike D. White's
office in Burnet, close to 35 years ago. For several years, our
acquaintance was only casual. Time passed and Al was converted to
the Christian religion. I remember the first sermon I ever heard
him preach -- it was at the Burnet Methodist church. It was one
of the most powerful and convincing sermons I ever heard in my life and
from that day on through the years, every time Al Feild
preached in Burnet, I was one among his audience. I have heard
greater pulpit orators than he, but no minister of the gospel ever
impressed me as he did. I believe he loved everybody and the
great character of his sermons so impressed the people that I know
there has never been a man in Burnet county held in such general
respect and love as was Al Feild. I loved him like a brother and our families became warm and steadfast friends.
...His heart-broken wife and children and the mother have the
consolation of knowing that many, many people are grieving with them in
their sorrow.
The world for many will never seem the same with Al Feild gone.
