Willie Tibitha Fox was born July 1, 1876, in Jackson County, Texas. She was the daughter of Ben C. and Margaret Ann Fox.

When she was three years old, her parents moved to Burnet, Texas. There she attended Burnet Public Schools and later taught in the Briggs school (1896-1897). It is not known if she taught in the "New School", but she talked about the building of it. She taught with a young man (name unknown) with whom she was very congenial. (He later became a law officer in West Texas.)

She married Louis Malcolm Swanson in 1899 and they had two children. They resided for several years in Llano. After moving to Oklahoma, her husband was killed.

She returned to San Antonio, where she died March 12, 1914. Her son, Malcolm Hamon Swanson, died in San Antonio recently. Her daughter, Mrs. Hollis Newnham, lives at 2003 Princeton St., Midland, Texas.

"Willie Bye," as she was called by her family and friends, was a very beautiful and lovable woman. The years she spent teaching at Briggs were happy ones for her.
