| On September 15, 1890, twin girls, Stella and Della, were born to Confederate Veteran Francis Marion Stone.
Stone, born October 7, 1844, in North Carolina, had moved to Arkansas
with eight brothers and two sisters. At the age of 18 in 1862, he
joined Company C, Monroe's Regiment, Arkansas Cavalry, Confederate
States Army, serving until the end in 1865. In 1867 he purchased 200
acres of land in Howard County, Arkansas, later buying 97 more acres.
Stone married Mary E. Hester from Georgia in January 1867. This marriage produced six children before Mary's death in 1878. He then married Sarah Reeder Lane,
a widow with three children. To this marriage seven children were
born, twins Stella and Della being the fifth and sixth. In the early 1890's the State of Arkansas decided to cut a new road across Stone's land. This new road came within 50 feet of the house. When the State wanted to cut down two large trees in front of the house, Stone let them know that they were as close to his house as they were coming. This house still stands and is occupied by a grandson. When the twins were six years old, Francis Marion Stone died, leaving Stella 19.5 acres from his estate. Stella Stone married Hulet Newton Jacobs on December 11, 1910, and in about 1925 they built a home on Stella's land. To this union six children were born, William, Georgia, Lucy, Cornelia, Howard, and Jerry. The first four children were born in Arkansas, and in 1919 they moved to Turkey, Texas, where another son was born. By 1925 the Jacobs family had returned to their Arkansas homeplace where the last son was born. Stella and Hulet were very active in the community and in the Baptist church. William, the oldest son, because of health problems requiring much care, lived with his parents until he passed away at the age of 56. Daughter Cordelia died at birth. The other two daughters are homemakers, one son works for the postal service, and the other son is in banking. Twin sister Della married George Preston Beane. They moved to West Texas where he taught school in several towns before settling in Plains. There they owned and operated a motel, during which time Beane also served as County Judge. Stella's beloved Hulet passed away in 1972. Because of a broken hip, Stella now resides in a nursing home in Nashville, Arkansas. However, she still maintains her home on the land originally interited from her father. Each year on Stella's birthday, the family holds an open house where relatives, seven granchildren, and nine great grandchildren and 75-100 friends attend.
