Killed on Luzon. Corp Wilmoth Jernigan, son of Coy Jernigan of Burnet County, was killed in action on Luzon Island, March 3, according to a telegram received from the war department by relatives. Corp. Jernigan was 22 years of age and was reared at Oakalla. He had been in the army three years and the past 18 months had been in the South Pacific. He was a member of the First Cavalry Division of the Seventh Cavalry. Six months ago he was awarded the Combat Infantry Medal for heroic action in battle. He had participated in the New Guinea Admiralty and Philippines invasions and battles. Corporal Jernigan is survived by his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Jernigan, one brother, Marcus Ray Jernigan, who is in the Navy in the South Pacific, one sister, Mrs. Ray Leonard of Lampasas, and two half-sisters of Burnet.
