MAGILL, WILLIAM HARRISON. Born in Kentucky in 1813, the son of Samuel P. and Nancy Magill. The date of Mr. Magill’s arrival in Texas has not been ascertained but it is known that he first settled in Mina (Bastrop) municipality. His parents emigrated to Texas later and made their home with him first in Bastrop county and then in Burnet county where the father, Samuel, died April 6, 1865. He was born October 6, 1783. His wife was born December 20, 1792, and died December 25, 1865. William H. Magill was second sergeant in Captain Jesse Billingsley’s company which was disbanded June 1, 1836. Mr. Magill on July 20 joined Captain Calvin Boales ranging company. Mr. Magill was twice married. The name of his first wife has not been ascertained. She died in Bastrop county leaving a husband and several children. One of the sons, John S., was born October 10, 1848, and was killed by Indians in Burnet county November 12, 1863. William H. and Elizabeth Magill, the second wife, were the parents of the following children: Sarah (Mrs. N.
S. Dorbandt, living in Athens, Texas, in 1932);
Alice (Mrs. Wood, deceased); Edgar V., living in Burnet in 1932; Siddie (Mrs. Edman, died in California); Josie (Mrs. Josie Garret, living in Burnet in 1932); Miss Sue Lee, living in Burnet in 1932; Logan, living in Burnet in 1932; Patterson, living in San Angelo in 1932; and Robert, the youngest, who in 1932 was living in East Africa. Mr. William H. Magill died at his home in Burnet in 1878. His wife, born in 1831, died in 1914. Their graves are marked. |
