  • joined the Confederacy at age 13 in 1863, serving in Capt. Jake Bennett's Company A, 10th Kentucky Cavalry, which was part of General Adam R. Johnson's Partisan Rangers
  • married first in 1866 to Elizabeth Kenard and had

    • Hester Hyburnia (1869-1947)
    • Celina Leah (1870-1968)
    • Houston
    • Nancy Cannon (died in infancy)
  • married second in 1875 to Ruth Ann Sullivan and had
    • John Thomas (1876-1942)
    • Ambrous (1879-1890)
    • Fred Elonzo (1880-1945)
    • Phillip Martin (1882-1947)
    • Henry B. (1884-1938)
    • Nannie Belle (1886-1980)
    • Laura L. (1888-1965)
    • Emma Ree "Ruth" (1891-1936)
    • Emma Zetta "Dixie" (1891-1997)
    • Forrest (1893-1896)
    • Albert (1896-1939)
    • Elbert (1896-1966)
  • died 11 Feb 1945 at age 94; buried in Bear Creek Cemetery
