A good many of our citizens took advantage of the low excursion rates on the A. & N. W. and I. & G. N. roads on Thanksgiving day, and went to Austin, San Antonio and other points.

PORK FOR SALE -- 5 cents net a pound.  P. R. Purcell, Sage.

Except for the closing of the Post office and the Bank, you would not have known that it was Thanksgiving day last Thursday.  There wasn't a preacher in town to conduct religious services if one had been preferred.  Rev. Bell was called to McNeill to see a sick friend, and Rev. Sherman had to go to Austin.

TO THE PUBLIC:
The undersigned has purchased Mr. Warren's Meat Market interest, and respectfully asks the patronage of the Public.  We promise by furnishing the best meats the country affords and by fair prices and attention to deserve it.

Wanted -- Hides and Furs, for which the highest market prices will be paid.  Respectfully, J. F. Neely

O that we had a thousand subscribers like Frank Alexander of Morgan Creek.  He knows to a day when his time is out, and pays in advance every time for "the old lady."

It is said that the train coming from Austin on Thanksgiving day was crowded, and that a considerable number of men and boys were under the influence of liquor.  Wherever we go, "the trail of the serpent is over us all."

The Colored school, under direction of the teacher, Miss Ida V. Norris, had a very clever Thanksgiving service at the Baptist church at night.
