Monday night treated the young people of the town to one of the most
enjoyable parties of the season, given in honor of their kinsman, Melton Pegues, who
was visiting them from the State University at Austin. To make
the evening's enjoyment complete, at the proper hour the most delicious
refreshments were served. |

From the Burnet Bulletin 21 Years Ago [1902] - 87 wolf scalps were filed with Commissioners Court last year. - Little Miss Hattie Belle Dennis visited in Lampasas last week and reports a flying ride on Messrs. Barnes & Higdon's automobile. - The Burnet Photographer, Geo. H. Cox, and children, accompanied by Mr. Ray Wingren left last Friday for West Virginia, to be gone several months. The best wishes of the Bulletin follow them. - The Board of Examiners, composed of Profs. Hargon and Stanley and Mr. J. M. Taylor, was in session Friday and Saturday. Those in Burnet who received certificates, were Miss Lois Cook and W. L. Chamberlain. - Judge Harrell, Dayton Moses, Lum Pearson, and Warren Galloway are in Austin, mixing in the locked Judicial Convention. Perhaps other delegates from this place are attending but we failed to get their names. - Senator Joseph W. Bailey of Texas, choked Senator Beverage of Indiana, after the Senate adjourned Monday because the latter refused to withdraw an offensive remark made concerning Mr. Bailey. Senator Bailey was pulled loose from Mr. Beverage before any hurt was inflicted. - Mr. J. W. Tate, who lives nine miles west of Marble Falls, has recently lost several head of cattle from fever. They droop, quit eating, get high fever, mostly in the legs, and die, usually within two days of the time symptoms show. Mr. Tate is inclined to the opinion that ticks are the cause, and he is much alarmed and at a loss what to do for them. |

BRIGGS LOCALS - Almost the entire community attended the free barbecue and rodeo, at Florence last Tuesday. Quite a number stayed for the play that night. - Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Morris took their baby to Temple one day last week for special medical attention. It is still in a dangerous condition. - Miss Mary Sue Collins from Coleman is a guest of her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Collins. - J. B.G. Jones of Burnet is here to open his butcher shop, for which he has our gratitude. - W. C. Dillingham made a business trip to Lampasas Friday. - Little Billie West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl West, has been seriously ill for the past week. They have a trained nurse, Mrs. Smalley, from Bertram, to care for him. We are glad to report that he is beginning to improve. - Mr. and Mrs. Bud Elder spent Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Patterson. Mr. and Mrs. H. J. McGuire and Miss Rose and Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Dillingham visited at the home of Snow Skaggs Thursday night. - Mrs. E. L. Eaves has had as a guest her sister, Mrs. Winnie Murphy of Austin. - Miss Juanita Horne spent Friday night and Saturday with Miss Florine Wadkins. - A splendid rain fell here Saturday night and a light shower Sunday. It would be hard to estimate just how much it is worth in dollars as crops were beginning to suffer and stock water was getting scarce. --Reporter |
