  • Casualties of the War - a list from the library of Burnet County men who died as a result of the war. This list will have links to newspaper articles as I find them. The first name linked to a newspaper notice is Vaughan Plevan, Master Sergeant, who was killed in action in Dec. 1944.
  • Death Notices - transcribed from Newspaper Sources.
  • Casualties List from National Archives - a photocopy of list of Army casualties for the County, with serial numbers, rank, and designation of death.
  • Local News of the War - information about soldiers from Burnet County who went to war; also civilian participation in the war effort. This is an ongoing project--collecting information from microfilmed newspapers.
  • Participants - Information from "The Fighting Men of Texas", (5 Volumes, History of the 2nd World War), 1948, Historical Publishing Co. and other sources.
  • Statistics of the War - information about numbers of dead and missing in Central Texas Counties, compared to the total number who served the US
  • World War II Veterans buried in or near Burnet County. This list includes men who died or were killed as a result of the war and were eventually buried in Burnet, as well as veterans who returned home and died many years after the war.

  • American Battle Monuments Commission -- The ABMC is responsible for commemorating the services of the American Armed Forces where they have served since April 6, 1917 through the establishment of suitable memorial shrines; designing, constructing, operating and maintaining permanent American military burial grounds in foreign countries. Web site includes detailed descriptions of overseas cemeteries and links to searchable databases of war dead.
  • World War II Honor Roll -- From the American Battlefield Monuments Commission. Contains a searchable database of the 172,218 names of those American service personnel buried at ABMC cemeteries, those Missing in Action and those buried or lost at sea.

  • The American World War II Orphans Network -- an organization of sons, daughters, nieces, nephew, and grandchildren of those who gave their lives in service to their country in WWII. There are many knowledgeable people within the network, and they help each other locate information about fathers who were KIA.
  • World War II Memorial -- Online Registry for World War II Veterans is available on National WWII Memorial Web Site 
    • 16 million Americans served in uniform during the Second World War
    • The American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) has introduced a World War II Registry online to document the names of all who participated in the world's largest and most devastating war.
    • The Registry is accessible on the web site of the National World War II Memorial (http://www.WWIImemorial.com). Any American who served in the armed forces or contributed to the war effort on the home front, whether in factories and shipyards or farms and neighborhoods, is eligible.
    • There is no charge to place a name in the Registry.
    • Individuals can be enrolled through the web site or by calling the memorial's toll free number at 1-800-639-4WW2.
    • The Registry contains more than one million records, most submitted by the public.
    • The database also includes National Archives and Records Administration lists of those killed in service during the war, and names of those buried in ABMC overseas cemeteries or listed on its Tablets of the Missing.
    • The memorial is under construction and on schedule for the official dedication ceremony set for Saturday, May 29th, 2004. The Registry will be accessible at the memorial site on the National Mall when the memorial is opened to the public.
  • Pearl Harbor Casualty List--This is a comprehensive list of the names of all civilians and military personnel killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dec 7, 1941. Source: United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service, USS Arizona Memorial. (Honolulu, HI 96818)
