 1 TOWNLIN William N.       1828 (RW) William N. Townlin  He married Catherine Ellen Davidson.  During the Civil War he enlisted Oct 1862 in Daingerfield, Tx. in Company I, Texas 27th Cavalry Regiment (Whitfield's Legion, 1st Texas Legion, under Capt. J. M. Cook).  He was stationed in Camp Rogers, Miss. and took part in Iuka on 19 Sep 1862 and the Battle of Davis Bridge, Tennessee on Hatchie River on 5 Oct 1862 among other battles.  He was later taken a POW on 4 May 1865 by the Yankees.   The surrender was part of the last surrender of the Confederate Army, east of the Mississippi River,  made at "Surrender Oak".  Led by Commander General Richard Taylor forces laid down their guns to Union General E.R.S. Canby near Sydney Station.  He was paroled in Meridian, Miss. on 11 May 1865.
