Hoover's Valley Cemetery

for more current transcriptions click on Find-A-Grave
If you have pictures or transciptions, please send to the county coordinator.

NOTE:  I only do transcribing and helping people with genealogical research.  I have nothing to do with the cemetery, so if you are looking for information on purchasing plots or rules and regulations of the cemetery, contact the caretaker or a local funeral home.

Coordinates:  N30 43.225  W98 22.867

Source:  Surveyed by Katelyn Turner, April 2006

Surveyed by tombstones.  Notes in parentheses are from funeral home markers, cemetery plat, and descendants of Hoover Valley founding families.

The last column is from the plat denoting the row and plot with row 1 beginning on the west side and the plots ascending south to north.
There are many unknown graves of which some have a small stone marking them as such.  I have not listed tombstones placed for people still living.

Location:  West of Burnet, Texas on SH-29 1 mile to CR-116 (Hoover Valley Rd.).

Go 8 miles to the “T” intersection of Park Rd. 4.  South on Park Rd. 4 about 1 mile to cemetery on west side of road.

History:  Founded on land donated by Rev. Isaac Hoover.  The earliest marked tombstone is dated 1853.  The Hoover’s Valley Cemetery Association keeps the grounds neat and maintains a plat of the plots, and has built a replica of the original small Methodist church/school.  The cemetery is still in use.  There is an historical marker across the road.

(Unmarked slab covering grave – according to legend; during the early 1850’s, the cavalry was traveling from Ft. Croghan, Burnet to Ft. Mason, Mason County, when a black groomsman died and was buried here.)
