Henrietta Nichols born 1896 in Garza County, daughter of Milford Riley Nichols and Isabel Graham Sowell, wrote the "History of Verbena Church" from her personal memories of growing up in Garza County and the Verbena Church. She says, "In 1902, August, an arbor was built of poles and covered with schinnery brush and that was Garza County's first Church, built without hammer or nails." Read her account of this time in the history of Garza County: Henrietta's HISTORY
