COWBOYS of GARZA COUNTY, TX
F.E. "Bud" Marable in group photo, OS Ranch Cowboys 1888.
This is an image of my Grandfather, Bud Marable, and his friends for posting in the Cowboy category of the Photo section of the Garza County
TXGEN web site. I restored and captioned the photo from an original print and accompanying notation that was in our collection of family
photos. I understand that one of the fellows in the photograph, O.B. Kelly, became the first sheriff of Garza County. Submitted by: Dan E. Cockrum
Additional Information:
I noted a photo at your website [Cowboys] and the submitter indicated the image was taken in 1888. This is not correct. Bud Boren
is in the photo and he came to Garza around 1892 and worked on the O S ranch but was sent to Fisher County to work on the OB ranch. He returned
around 1894. The photo was taken in 1898 and the 1888 was probably the result of a typo when the photo was first published in an OS book of 1972.
Bud Boren wrote a letter to his daughter about when he came to Garza. Submitted by: Norman Wayne Brown

Boy Scout Troop 16 - taken July 30, 1930, after they won the South Plains Council McMillian Cup for being the Council's Best Troop.
Dan B. Cockrum was abt. 19 then and he was probably Assistant Scoutmaster. He had written all the names on the back of the
picture. Twenty-five years later his son (Dan E.) was a Scout and the young man on the far right of the back row was his Scoutmaster.

County map. FM 2008 is an 11 mile county road connecting two highways (US 380 and FM 651), not two towns. There is a
historical marker for this church located in the museum in Post, TX.
The First Presbyterian Church built in Post Texas by Tom B. Cutler. The history of the church is on page 278-280 of the book "Wagon
Wheels". He was a carpenter in the Post area in the early days and contracted to build several homes, barns, businesses, etc., there. In
addition to that Mr. Cutler help organize the Post Masonic Lodge. He also served as Constable of Precinct 1 from 1912 -1916.
