Looking for an early census regarding my GGgrandfather and family residing in Wood Co. An 1860 census, I believe, has them there, but before? I haven't seen the 1860 census yet. They lived on a farm a few miles east of Quitman. The 1870 census has them in Titus Co., living near Mt. Pleasant. Names: Elijah H. PAGE Sarah J. PAGE (wife) and several children. I'd like to know exactly what the 1860 census says and others if possible. The Titus census has Elijah H. Page as coming from Arkansas but the 1860 Wood census supposedly has him from Alabama, which I believe is correct.

Also, where was "Precinct 1" (in or was near what town)? All came from Dade County, Missouri sometime after 1870.

Searching for information Lawrence and Elva Bullock SIMS family lived Mineola Texas ca 1940-1948.Need information on children, Keith, Will and John Peek SIMS. Keith married moved to Dallas. Believe Will worked funeral home Mineloa about 1940 and later moved to Big Spring Texas. John Peek 1945 in U S Navy Reserve South Pacific. I have information on Lt. John Peek SIMS who was reported missing in action, 1-7-1945, declared dead 1-8-1946. He was married. Would like information on marriage abt 1941-1945 in Wood Co. Texas. [Ed. He moved to Wood County in early 1850's. His wife Francis, and 4 children are shown on the 1860 Wood County Census. He served in the 10th Texas Cavalry during the Civil War, but I have been unable to find him after the War. I can't find his wife, Francis, after the 1860 Census. James and Francis had 4 children: Thomas J., b. abt. 1856; William J. b. Feb 1858 (My g-grandfather); Andrew J. b. 1859/60 (twin) Mary E., b. 1859/60 (twin). All children were apparently born in Wood County. I can't find the family on the 1870 census, but all the sons were enumerated on the 1880 Wood County Census. I would be interested in any information on James A, and family. I am particularly interested in when/where he died and was buried. Also, his wife's maiden name. James was the brother of John M. BOYD, who played a prominent role in early Wood County history.

Father and mother from South Carolina. Wife Arnettis M. Bates born in Alabama 1856. Father from South Carolina and Mother from Georgia. Sons Andrew J. Bates b. AK 1874; William A. Bates b. AK 1875; James M Bates b. AK 03/11/1878 (my great grandfather); BATES b. AK1880. This family moved to Wood County, Texas in 1880 from Arkansas. Arnettis died and William remarried (12/28/1898) to Jackie M. MITCHELL who was married to a Mitchell with several children. They only had one child together Charlie Bates whom I am told was born in Mineola, Texas 06/1899. It is recorded that he died in Grayson County, Gordonville, Texas. One of the children Lizzie Mitchell married Andrew J Bates in 1894. I am told William G Bates died in Mineola or Quitman Texas in the early 1900's. My great grandfather James Mcduffie (Mack) Bates worked on the railroad in Upshur County, Gilmer, Texas. His future wife Laura Sevilla Catlett (whose family is traced back to England 1500s) was born in Gilmer, Texas 12/29/1881 worked in a newspaper store in Gilmer with her sister. James came into the store and he was thought to have almost died. She nursed him back and they went to Wood County, Quitman, Texas in 1904 and married in a covered wagon. They then moved across top of Texas to Baylor County and Knox County then to Martin County before moving to Glendale, AZ in 1935. They were sharecroppers and moved where the money was. They never owned their own house and were very poor. They were paid monies to have so much oil drawn from the property they were renting. James never served in the service nor did he have a Social Security number. My Laura lived to be 96 years old.. James was 71 years old and died of heart failure.. He has several operations to help and did not work.

He is mentioned in the Will of Zachariah Taylor MOZLEY in 1926 and in a condicil in 1929, but is not mentioned in a court record of 1936. He is the son of Miles "Pike" MOZLEY and Mary Ann "Missouri" SMITH. Miles is a brother to Zachariah Taylor MOZLEY. Miles is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, Jefferson Co., Al. Mary Ann SMITH MOZLEY is buried in Lusk Cemetery, DeKalb Co., Al. A grandnephew told me that when Charley was about 16, his father beat him and he left home. He may have married Minnie BAXTER February 22, 1891 in DeKalb Co., AL. Miles moved to DeKalb Co., AL from Floyd Co., GA sometime between 1892 and 1900. Charley is in the 1900 census of DeKalb Co., AL.
